JORHAT: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita on Sunday said that development and people’s needs in Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency would be ensured by the central and state governments.
Addressing mediapersons at the Jorhat BJP Office, Margherita said that as the sitting Jorhat Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi is from the opposition party (Congress), in the last one year, people have not been able to put forward their needs and grievances to both the state and centre, led by the BJP. The Minister said that Gogoi has not taken up problems faced by the people of Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency with the state or the central government.
Margherita said that the Jorhat MP however has been often seen criticising both the governments, in social, electronic, and print media. He said that the BJP leadership felt that someone should be given the responsibility to attend to the people’s requirements in Jorhat. “I feel honoured to look after this constituency,” he said.
Margherita added that he has already started visiting several Assembly areas under Jorhat Lok Sabha Constituency since about a week and started laying foundation stones for projects that will be funded from his MP fund. Margherita stated that in Teok, 45 works have been approved out of which foundation stones of 11 were laid. He said that under Nazira Assembly Constituency, 42 projects will be taken up with his MP fund. He said that more such works and schemes will be taken up with his funds and the state and union governments in each of the assembly seats.
“I would like to assure the people of Jorhat LS Constituency that their problems along with development would be looked after by both the central and state governments,” Margherita stated. Replying to a query, he said that the BJP-led governments at the centre and state were taking the region on the path of development and progress and never let down the trust given to the party by the people.
Margherita was here to attend a programme where several people joined the BJP in the party office.
