NAGAON: In a major operation, the Assam police has arrested a person in Nagaon district after confiscating 461 grams of heroin worth around Rs. 1 crore. The arrest was made after a tip-off that prompted the officials to stop a vehicle in the Gereki area. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the successful operation on his official X handle, commending the police for their diligence in combating drug-related crimes. He emphasized the state's commitment to fighting drug trafficking, stating, "Good job Assam police."

This recent seizure follows another major drug bust in the region. On March 16, Assam police confiscated around Rs 24 crore worth of yaba tablets in Sribhumi district, near the Mizoram border. Based on intelligence, officials intercepted a truck from Mizoram's Champhai district at the Puwamara bypass.

During inspection, officers found 80,000 tablets of yaba hidden in a secret compartment in the vehicle. Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das confirmed the operation details and the arrest.

These incidents also highlight the tireless efforts of Assam police to combat drug smuggling and safeguard the community as authorities are continuously on guard fighting against drugs in the area.
