BOKAKHAT: The deplorable condition of rural roads causes severe hardship for pedestrians. Currently, a single bout of rain causes the pothole-ridden roads to overflow with water, forming pond-like puddles.

Specifically, the road from Badulipar Gariyajan Club, historically known as Gohain Ali, through Gariyajan, Dabidubi, No. 2 Patiyapathar, Moukhowa, and Melamara, stretches approximately 7 kilometers. Though around one kilometer of this stretch has been paved, the remaining portion has been left in a dilapidated state, riddled with large potholes.

This road, under the jurisdiction of the Golaghat District Public Works Department (PWD), sees the daily movement of over a hundred small and large vehicles from Badulipar to the district headquarters. The poor condition of the road has made travel a nightmare for the people of the greater region. Due to the road’s condition, pedestrians, office-goers, school and college students, and especially those requiring emergency medical services, are facing immense difficulties, with ambulances often unable to reach the area. Although the matter has been brought to the attention of both the PWD and the local MLA, no effective measures have been taken, leaving the public in despair.

People are now reluctant to travel to the district center using private vehicles due to fear of accidents. In fact, multiple bike riders have already fallen victim to accidents caused by the road’s poor state.

At a time when the government is championing road development, the crumbling condition of this road has shocked concerned citizens. Therefore, it is imperative that repairs are made before the monsoon sets in, to prevent further inconvenience. The people of the region strongly demanded immediate repair and proper maintenance of this crucial road.
