BOKAKHAT: At around 7:30 AM yesterday, a fatal accident occurred near Numaligarh Babathan on National Highway 39 under the jurisdiction of Numaligarh Outpost Police Station. Rana Kandali (63 years), the priest of the historically significant Babathan in Numaligarh, was killed on the spot after being hit by a dumper bearing registration number AS01KC6167.

Kandali, a resident of Bosapathar in Komargaon and a retired employee of Numaligarh Tea Estate, was travelling to Babathan on a motorcycle (AS05D6890). His tragic death has deeply saddened various community organizations in Komargaon. He is survived by his wife and only child.

Kandali was not only a retired worker but was currently serving as a priest at the revered Babathan, making his untimely demise particularly painful for the people of Numaligarh and surrounding areas, including Komargaon. Local residents have raised strong allegations that such accidents are occurring frequently due to the unchecked recklessness of dumper drivers in Numaligarh. They also expressed disappointment that the control measures announced by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government have failed to be effectively implemented in the region.

Additionally, they said that the police administration failed to regulate traffic this morning as a large-sized tablet (equipment) was being transported to the Numaligarh Refinery via National Highway 39, causing widespread disruption. Today’s accident reportedly occurred due to the dumper being driven in an uncontrollable manner. While the dumper was seized by the police, the driver managed to flee. After a post-mortem examination, Kandali’s body was brought back to his residence in Bosapathar, where tributes were paid by Annapurna Natya Mandir and various other organizations.
