Assam: Renowned Musician Chitta Dev Mahanta Passes Away in Guwahati

Noted musician and a resident of Nagaon Khutikatia areas, Chitta Dev Mahanta passed away this morning at a hospital in Guwahati while undergoing treatment due to illness.

NAGAON: Noted  musician and a resident of Nagaon Khutikatia areas, Chitta Dev Mahanta passed away this morning at a hospital in Guwahati while undergoing treatment due to illness. He was 73 years old at the time of his demise. Mahanta was associated with numerous cultural events in Nagaon and had worked with many prominent singers, playing the accordion and tabla. He was particularly involved with established cultural events like Sur Samaloi and Sutradhara.

As a musician, Mahanta started playing the tabla in 1965. In 1982, he began learning the accordion under the guidance of artist Ranjit Dey at All India Radio, Shillong. He then started playing the accordion.

Mahanta is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, and numerous admirers. His demise has been mourned by MLA Rupak Sarma, former minister Girindra Kumar Baruah, and various organizations, including the Nagaon District Satra Mahasabha, Sandhani Sahitya Samaj, Nagaon Zila Sahitya Sabha, Paschim Satgaon Yogakendra, Sodou Nagaon Bhogali Bihu Utsav, Arunudoi Sahitya Chora, Sunil Saikia Sangeet Bidyalaya, and Sangeet Silpi Mancha, among others.
