JAMUGURIHAT: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi in collaboration with Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha organized a two-day seminar on ‘Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai and Bishnulal Upadhyaya on April 26 and 27 at Bishnu Nirmala Bhawan, Latashil, Guwahati, stated a press release issued by Tilak Sarma, General Secretary of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha.
The inaugural session was held on April 26 with Durga Khatiwoda, member, Nepali Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, in the chair. K Sreenivasarao, Secretary, Sahitya Akademy, forwarded a welcome address which was followed by an inaugural speech offered by Dr Chinta Mani Sharma, President of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha. Sitaram Kafley, an eminent writer, delivered a keynote address.
The inaugural session was attended by Dal Bahadur retired IAS, Saraswati Rai, daughter of Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai, Loknath Upadhyaya, son of Bishnulal Upadhyaya and former chairman of Gorkha Development Council, as guests of honour. Tilak Sarma, General Secretary of Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, offered a vote of thanks.
The first technical session was held with NB Rai in the chair wherein Amrit Upadhyaya, Chandramani Upadhayaya, and Dr Induprabha Devi presented papers. The second technical session was held with Gyan Bahadur Chhetry in the chair wherein Mhan Subedi, Kharga Bahadur Kaushik, and Badri Guragain presented seminar papers. The third technical session was held on April 27 with Dr Kemraj Nepal in the chair wherein Kharga Bahadur Kaushik, Laxman Adhikari, and Nabaprabha Adhikari presented papers. The fourth session was held with Nabasapcota in the chair wherein Dr Jayanta Krishna Sharma, Gyan Bahadur Chhetry, and Bhabani Prasad Sharma presented papers. The fifth session was held with Dr Induprabha Devi in the chair wherein Laxmi Sedai, Uma Pokhrel, and Kamal Sedai presented papers. N Suresh Babu, Deputy Secretary of Sahitya Akademi offered the vote of thanks.
The two-day programme was attended by dignitaries and researchers from throughout the nation including Santu Thapa, President of Kohima Gorkha Panchayat, Ganga Thapa, President of Kohima Sahitya Kalakriti, CP Giri, and former Adl DGP, Government of Nagaland, among others.
It is to be mentioned here that Hari Prasad Gorkha Rai and Bishnulal Upadhyaya were two stalwart leaders who contributed immensely for the upliftment of Assamese and Nepali literature.
