Assam Science Society’s foundation day observed at Doomdooma

DOOMDOOMA: Assam Science Society, Doomdooma Branch, celebrated its foundation day on February 13 at the Doomdooma Natya Mandir. This year’s theme is ‘Let’s stop the stagnation of the climate change campaign’.

The meeting was presided over by Jhikananda Borgohain, former Principal, Hoonlal HS School and Working President and life member having association with the Assam Science Society, Doomdooma Branch since its inception.

At the start of the meeting, General Secretary Dhiren Deka explained the objectives of the meeting and also discussed the key issues of climate change crisis and the target of zero emission of greenhouse gas emissions by 2070 under the provisions of the ‘Glasgow Climate Pact’ signed by 197 countries of the world in the COP (Conference of Parties) 26 in Glasgow, Scotland in 2021 in order to keep the global warming in balance. It is also imperative on us to leave a habitable world for future generations, he said.

Taking part in the discussion, Assistant Secretary Runumoni Dutta Bhuyan emphasized on adopting sustainable lifestyles and on taking measures locally to reduce global warming.

On the other hand, retired Principal of Dangri Higher Secondary School Baikuntha Bhuyan drew attention to the current large scale deforestation going on unabatedly in Assam and spoke about the changes in the structure of the Earth from a geographical perspective and discussed the need for human society to adapt to it.

The meeting was also attended by Arjun Barua, Life Member of the Branch and former President of Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha. He laid emphasis on the development of scientific temper among the school children.

In his presidential remark, President Jhikananda Borgohain expressed concern on the current outbreak of monkey menace and man-elephant conflict and expressed the view that human society was able to move forward because of the development of civilization through the untiring efforts of science and the scientists.

In the meeting, special felicitation was offered to Deben Deka, immediate past Secretary and current President of Doomdooma Satadol Sakha Xahitya Xabha, for receiving the special branch award by Axam Xahitya Xabha at its recently concluded Pathshala conference. The meeting came to an end after offering the vote of thanks by General Secretary Dhiren Deka.
