Assam: Tension prevails in Numaligarh over death of two individuals

BOKAKHAT: Tension erupted on Monday in Letekujan Tea Estate under Numaligarh Police Station following the suspected deaths of two individuals due to the consumption of illicit liquor. Authorities were compelled to exhume a buried body for post-mortem examination.

In the New Line area of the tea estate, a man named Ladu Telenga passed away on Saturday, followed by the death of another man, Rajesh Telenga, on Sunday. The situation in the tea estate became tense due to suspicions that the deaths resulted from consuming illicit liquor.

Based on public suspicion, the administration took immediate action and exhumed the buried body of Ladu Telenga, also known as Shankar Telenga, for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the body of Rajesh Telenga has been kept at Golaghat Civil Hospital for the same purpose. The exact cause of death will be revealed only after the post-mortem reports are out.

Meanwhile, the residents of the tea estate have urged the government and administration to eradicate the illicit liquor trade and restore a peaceful environment in the area.
