Assam: Training On Ecotourism Conducted For Manas Tiger Reserve Fringe Youths

Aaranyak and Manas Tiger Reserve conducted a five-day ecotourism training for 34 local youths, equipping them with skills to promote eco-cultural tourism in Assam's Manas region.

CHIRANG: Aaranyak, a premier biodiversity conservation organization, in collaboration with the Directorate of Manas Tiger Reserve and the local branch of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU), successfully organized a five-day training workshop on 'Ecotourism and Guiding' for young people from the peripheral regions of the Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam.

Organized at Hatizan, Daoddhara, Baksa, the project focused on training and inspiring youths of Bhuyanpara and Kokilabari areas on eco-cultural tourism. 34 youths, out of which 11 were women, engaged with the project, focusing on the region's rich natural and cultural resources of the Manas Tiger Reserve and its vicinity. This training will promote empowerment among local communities through livelihood opportunities from nature-based tourism.

The program started with an inaugural session with T. Sashidhar Reddy, Divisional Forest Officer of Manas Tiger Reserve, as the chief guest, Guest of Honour Chandrakanta Basumatary, and Ranger Vivekananda Pathak of the Bhuyanpara Range.

They were exposed to the eco-cultural tourism activities of the Karbi community in the Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Landscape. They mapped local eco-cultural resources and took part in a session on ornithology conducted by Bijay Basumatary, a well-known birding guide. The trainees also conducted village and bird walks, noting different bird species and possible tourism resources, better understanding the ecological and cultural values of the region.
