Kokhrajhar: Pramod Boro, Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and president of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), recently unveiled the 'Vision Document' for Bodoland's development, which is set to be presented as a "New Year gift" to the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The document outlines a roadmap for peace, integrity, and the protection of the region’s diverse ethnic communities.
Boro explained that the Vision Document was shaped through consultations with various community groups, including women, farmers, teachers, and youths, as well as community leaders and organizations.
It aims to address the concerns of 26 ethnic and tribal communities, focusing on preserving language, culture, and identity, protecting land rights, and promoting education and economic development.
The document sets out both short-term and long-term goals, such as infrastructure improvements, enhanced healthcare, and conservation of forests and biodiversity. While some issues can be tackled at the BTC level, others will require state and central government intervention.
Reflecting on his career, Boro highlighted the successful 2020 Bodo Peace Accord, which he sees as a major step towards peace. Under his leadership, the BTC has made progress in forest regeneration, rural development, and rehabilitating former militants. Despite financial challenges, including a Rs 3,000 crore liability, the BTC has streamlined its finances and focused on key areas like agriculture.
Boro remains optimistic that the Vision Document will guide Bodoland toward sustainable peace and development while safeguarding its unique cultural identity.
