KOKRAJHAR: World No Tobacco Day, 2025 was observed with enthusiasm and active community participation at Bengtol Higher Secondary School, Chirang on Saturday, under the global theme “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics on Tobacco and Nicotine Products.” The programme was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) and the District Health Society, Chirang, with the aim of educating students and the public about the dangers of tobacco.
A powerful and informative presentation was delivered by Dr. Raju Kr. Das, District Nodal Officer. His address focused on the growing burden of tobacco use, the objectives of the Tobacco-Free Educational Institution (TOFEI) initiative, and the key provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA). The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including an open quiz competition, an awareness rally and a pledge-taking ceremony involving students. These activities were designed to encourage youth participation and promote the shared goal of building a tobacco-free district.
The programme was graced by the presence of several dignitaries, including Silpika Kalita, ADC (Health); Dhanjeeta Das, Secretary, DLSA, Chirang Court; and staff from the Assam Cancer Care Foundation.
