KOKRAJHAR: A victory rally of the BJP under the aegis of Kokrajhar District BJP was held at Rupnath Brahma field, Ramfalbil in Kokrajhar district on Thursday where Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the rally and called upon the people to ensure victory of BJP candidates at Dotma and other constituencies where they will fight the BTC election.
In his speech, the Assam Chief Minister said that the BTC elections would be held before the ensuing Puja in the month of September. He said that the people of BTC were peace loving but some youths had gone to the jungle for an armed struggle to reiterate their demands but that they had come back and joined the peace and development initiatives. He said that over 4,000 Bodo youths lost their lives in the decades-long movement and violence and peace were not in sight at that time but that after the BTR Accord at the initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his team, peace had returned to BTR. He claimed that the BTC Accord in 2003 was also created at the initiative of the then Prime Minister Atul Bihari Vajpayee. The CM said that both the BTC and BTR accords were created by the BJP as this party always wanted peaceful coexistence among all sections of people. He also said that there had been no gunshots, bomb blasts and killing incidents in BTR in the last five years. He hailed the initiative of the BTR authority and the ABSU for their inclusive strategy to take along all the 26 communities of BTC.
Sarma said that the BJP was not against the UPPL and the BPF but wanted to take them together. He said that the BJP had been trying to bring unity among all sections of people, along with equal development and justice.
The Chief Minister said that Dotma being the birthplace of Bodofa UN Brahma, was an important constituency to develop in all spheres. Hindus, Christians, and Muslims-all should sing ‘BTR : Zindabad’ together for making it a land of peace, unity and progress, he said, adding that BTC/BTR was the constitutional arrangement and that the council was given funds on the basis of population pattern in due time. He said that the Government of Assam had taken all necessary initiatives for establishing Kokrajhar University, Tamulpur Medical College, Stadium, bridges, and other infrastructures. He also said that there were only two roads in New Delhi with names of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi and Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma from the entire Northeast region and that the installation of Bodofa’s statue in the national capital was BJP’s initiative to honour the legacy of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma. He further said that earlier, people witnessed elections in BTC at gunpoint but that after BJP came to power, elections in BTC passed off peacefully in a free and fair manner.
MCLA of BTC Rajib Brahma while pointing out the current outrage over the remarks on tribal land laws, said that tribal belt and blocks were constitutional provisions and that no one could violate or revoke this land law. He said that there had been no problem in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Councils keeping ties with the BJP. He said that many leaders in BTC had been misleading the public with false propaganda against the BJP. He claimed that the BTC would witness significant development if BJP came to power. He also claimed that all big schemes in the state were sanctioned by the BJP-led Government of India and that there had been many public welfare schemes for the poor people.
