GOALPARA: A high-level team of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, comprising MP Rakibul Hussain and several other MLAs, had to face the anger of people evicted recently from the Hasila Beel near Goalpara town and was chased away from the scene on Sunday.
The team under the leadership of Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain accompanied by local MLA AK Rasheed Alam and other MLAs Wazed Ali Choudhury, Aftabuddin Mollah, Jadab Swargiary, Abdur Rahim Ahmed, and Abdul Batin Khandakar had arrived at the Borpahar side of Hasila Beel to meet the victims and distribute relief materials.
However, as the Congress team began distributing supplies, a section of people, supposedly eviction victims, started shouting slogans and chased away the team from the spot. “It is Congress which is responsible for our present plight and especially local MLA AK Rasheed Alam’s negative role has led to this situation,” alleged the angry mob.
Meanwhile, Congress counter-alleged that the protest was staged by the ruling BJP. “The protest was created by the government and the Chief Minister is responsible for this act,” fumed Rakibul Hussain, the Dhubri MP.
One the other hand, the Goalpara District Administration has kept a strict vigil of law and order in the area to prevent any untoward incident. The Hasila Beel eviction to clear about sixteen hundred bighas of land surrounding the wetland began on June 16 and continued for three days.
