DOOMDOOMA: Doomdooma Police arrested two more persons on Monday in the alleged dowry related death case of Dharana Deka who was found dead after hanging herself in her in-laws' house at Kumarpati area of the town.
The arrested persons are Rabin Deka (60) and Deepali Deka (55), father-in-law and mother-in-law of the deceased daughter-in-law Dharana. Police had already arrested Shyam Deka (30), husband of Dharana, on Sunday and kept him in police lock up. All the three arrested persons were sent to jail at Tinsukia on Monday.
The body of Dharana was cremated on the back side of her in-laws house on the bank of Doomdooma river around 11pm on Sunday night under strict supervision of the police.
It is learnt that about three hundred enraged people who assembled in front of Dharana's in-laws house when her body was taken there by Police after completion of postmortem examination, wanted to cremate the body just in front of the house. But OC Inspector Dibyajyoti Dutta very intelligently managed the situation and debarred people from doing so.
Later Officer -in-charge, Doomdooma Police Station (PS), Inspector Dutta told the scribes that none from in-laws family nor from parents family were present at the time of cremation. Instead the disgruntled people from Kakapather kept sitting on the old trunk road itself.
The social marriage that took place between Shyam and Dharana about two years back was culmination of an love affair between them. But soon it turned sour when the in-laws family began to demand dowry from Dharana's father Bipul Deka. It is learnt that the poor father met with most of the dowry demands except for one bed that he was unable to provide because of his poor financial condition. As a consequence, Dharana had to bear the burnt of all the atrocities of the in-laws family on her for last three months. According to members of the parent's family, Dharana did not hang herself to death on Sunday. It was a clear case of planned murder. However the details of the postmortem report is still awaited.
