DIBRUGARH: More than 40 families were affected after a crucial embankment was washed away by the raging waters of Buridehing River in Dibrugarh in the recent wave of flood. The flood water has subsided but the people of Bongamor Block Gaon are still facing huge problems due to no potable drinking water being available.
The people of Bongamor Block Gaon situated at Khowang Legislative Assembly constituency in Dibrugarh suffer every year during floods.
Most of the houses were damaged after flood water entered. “Our cropland was damaged due to the recent wave of flood. Every year, floods damage our crops. The crucial embankment, built to control the flood, washed away into the river. We are facing drinking water problems,” said Binay Kalita, a resident of Bongamor.
He said, “Every year we face such damage. This year too, the flood came before the monsoon. We depend on farming but if the flood continues, we will have to face a lot of problems.”
"The rains have just started. We don't know what will happen in the coming days. Last year also, a crucial embankment was breached and water entered the village causing problems for the villagers. Every year, we face problems during floods," said another villager. He said, "We are not getting fodder for our cattle. Due to the shortage of fodder we have left them in the village. We urge the department concerned to provide fodder for the animals."
The recent wave of flood has affected seven revenue circles of Dibrugarh East, Dibrugarh West, Chabua, Moran, Tengakhat, Naharkatia, and Tingkhong.
