KOKRAJHAR: In a landmark achievement for the Ex-BLT members across Assam, CEM of BTR Pramod Boro on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of Ex-BLT Bhawan at Kargaon near Kokrajhar town in the presence of EM Saikhong Basumatary, MLA Lawrence Islary, former Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari and President of Ex-BLT Welfare Cooperative Society Limited Mono Kr Brahma. The Ex-BLT Bhawan would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore and will have the required facilities.
In his speech, CEM of BTR Pramod Boro said that the Bodos had witnessed Udayachal Movement by PTCA, Bodoland Separate State Movement by ABSU, BLT and NDFB Movement for Bodoland state and several hundreds of Bodos sacrificed their lives for the cause of the Bodos in these movements. BAC Accord was signed during ABSU Movement in 1993, BTC Accord was signed during BLT Movement in 2003, and BTR accord was signed during ABSU, NDFB, and UBPO Movement in 2020, he said, adding that hundreds of BLT cadres laid their lives but all the martyr families have not fully received compensation and only 300 Ex-BLT cadres were rehabilitated while the Ex-BLT Welfare Association has no office or Bhawan to sit together, discuss, and work under a roof together for which the Government BTR has decided to establish the Ex-BLT Bhawan worth Rs 1 crore where there will be facility for office, rooms for the guests, auditorium hall, and other facilities. He said that along with verified NDFB members, the Government of BTR will initiate the rehabilitation of the Ex-BLT and former members of the Volunteers Force of the ABSU. They would also be given support for self sustenance in different fields while martyr families would also be looked after because all of them fought for the cause of the Bodos.
Boro said that a statue of founder chairman of BLT Chilagang Basumatary was already installed at his burial place at Bongshigaon while the beautification of the premises is going on. He said that the Government of BTR had proposed construction of Bir Chilagang Basumatary Mini Stadium at a cost of Rs 5 crores each in 40 constituencies and 12 of these have already been completed. He also said that the mini stadium in the name Bir Chilagang would be increased to 60 after the constituencies are fully delimited. He further said that to honour the sacrifice of founder Secretary of BLT Harkhab Narzary, his statue would be installed in his native place in Tamulpur within June 12 and called upon the Ex-BLT Welfare Cooperative Society to extend support to them.
In his speech, former Deputy Chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari said that this day was a historic day as the foundation stone for a Bhawan for the Ex-BLT has been laid by the CEM of BTR Pramod Boro at Kargaon near Kokrajhar town to facilitate the members of ex-BLTs. He said, “We governed 15 years as an elected council in BTC but unfortunately we failed to establish a Bhawan for the Ex-BLT Welfare Cooperative Society. I have no words to praise him as he quickly agreed for the foundation of the Bhawan.” He said that there were high expectations of Ex-BLT members who are alive to get livelihood under the present government. He also said that Kargaon village had a lot of dedications for the BLT Movement and they also donated lands for establishment of Bhawan for the Ex-BLT members. He further said that the ex-BLT members will get required facilitation once the Bhawan is completed.
