KOKRAJHAR: The two-days international seminar on “Interdisciplinary Approaches for a Sustainable World” organized by CNB College in collaboration with the Bodoland University (BU) concluded on Wednesday at CNB College, Bokakhat in Golaghat district. This much-anticipated event, gathering experts, dignitaries, and researchers, aims to encourage collaborative discussions and innovative solutions to address global sustainability challenges.
Sources from the BU informed that the inauguration ceremony was graced by the distinguished guests, including Prof. (Dr.) B.L. Ahuja, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University, who was also the chief guest. The lighting of the lamp, a symbolic gesture, was led by Prof. Ahuja, marking the official start of the event. Other prominent figures in attendance included Dr. Paramananda Saikia, Senior Scientist at Millipore Sigma, USA, Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia, Principal Scientist at CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, Assam, and Dr. Sonali Ghosh, Field Director of Kaziranga National Park, Assam. The programme received support from NRL, ONGC, and the Kaziranga National Park Authority.
Following the lighting of the lamp, CNB College students performed the college song in honour of the institution. After the felicitation of the dignitaries, Dr. Surajit Dutta, Principal of CNB College, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving sustainable development.
In his inaugural speech, Prof. (Dr.) B.L. Ahuja, VC of BU stressed the significant role academic institutions and professionals play in advancing sustainability through innovation, research, and education. His remarks set the tone for a productive and thought-provoking seminar. The formal inauguration of the conference abstracts followed, culminating in a vote of thanks by Dr. Hari Prasad Nath, Vice Principal of CNB College.
The event continued with two engaging plenary sessions chaired by Dr. Hemen Sarma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Botany at Bodoland University. The first session featured a keynote address by Dr. Paramananda Saikia, Senior Scientist at Millipore Sigma, Boston, who shared insights on sustainable technologies. The second session, led by Dr. Binoy Kumar Saikia, Principal Scientist at CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat, offered valuable perspectives on scientific advancements and their role in sustainability.
As the seminar progresses, experts and attendees are set to explore a broad range of topics, addressing the interconnected challenges of sustainability through interdisciplinary approaches. The event promises to foster collaboration and innovation, contributing to the development of solutions for a more sustainable future. The day concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Hemen Sarma. The IIS 25 International Seminar stands as an exceptional platform for knowledge-sharing, marking a significant step towards creating a sustainable world through collaboration and innovation. Several papers have been presented both orally and as posters, with participation from numerous universities and college both India and abrade.
