KOKRAJHAR: BPF vice president Kampa Borgoyari, who was the former Deputy Chief of BTC and party spokesperson, resigned from the party today.
In his resignation letter to the president of the BPF Hagrama Mohilary, Borgoyari wrote- “I do hereby tender my resignation from the vice presidency as well as primary membership of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) due to my inabilities to participate in the party activities. I am grateful to you, all BPF party leaders as well as well wishers for providing me with the opportunity to serve the people for the past twenty years as the vice president, spokesperson of the BPF”. He also hoped that the BPF will continue to grow under the capable leadership of party president Hagrama Mohilary and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
It may be mentioned that there had been a communication gap between Hagrama Mohilary and Kampa Borgoyari since the past five months for reasons best known to them. Borgoyari was seen distancing himself for over the past five months and he abstained in the recent annual convention of the BPF for reasons known to him and he did not attend any party meetings or programme in these periods. There had been severe doubt that former BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgoyari, who is the most instrumental of the BPF since the time of BTC accord, was likely to join the UPPL and later expected to join the BJP. It is understood that there have been many internal discords between the two dynamic leaders of the BPF-Hagrama Mohilary and Kampa Borgoyari. Mohilary did not want his parted away from the BPF being a responsible leader of the party.
Borgoyari was the Deputy Chief of BTC since 2005 when the then Deputy Chief of BTC Chandan Brahma was elected to Assam Assembly and became cabinet minister of Assam. Now, a lot of questions have arisen after his resignation as most of the senior BPF leaders have deserted the party and joined either UPPL or BJP. Senior BPF leader and former cabinet minister from Chirag district Chandan Brahma has already left the BPF and joined the UPPL and an MCLA has also joined the UPPL and now one of the strongest BPF leaders Borgoyari has left the party. With his resignation, now question arises who will look after Chirang district BPF and if the remaining BPF MCLAs from Chirang district will continue to work with the BPF as the BPF is likely to be a lesser party in Chirang. His desertion will likely have an impact in another circle too in the BPF.
