BOKAKHAT: Like every year, the nation commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas on Saturday, marking India’s victory over Pakistan in the Kargil War of 1999. Alongside the rest of the country, the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed at the memorial site of Kargil martyr Captain Jintu Gogoi in Khumtai, Golaghat district. The daylong programme was organized with the collaboration of the Jachinfa Lekhika Samaroh Samiti and the family members of the martyr.

In the morning, the national flag was hoisted by Captain Jintu Gogoi’s father, Thogibam Gogoi, a retired Air Force officer. Following a tribute ceremony at the martyr’s memorial by Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia, an open meeting was held under the chairmanship of retired teacher Bhavani Bailung.

Dalimy Saikia Bora, President of the Golaghat District Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, lit the ceremonial lamp at the meeting, which was inaugurated by Professor Gayatri Devi. On this occasion, Suvarna Saikia Bordoloi, President of the Sadou Asom Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, released a felicitation book based on the biography of Jachinfa Lekhika Samaroh Samiti President Jinu Gogoi, edited by the organization’s Secretary Labonya Gogoi.

A poetry collection of the Golaghat district Lekhika Samaroh Samiti was also released during the event. In the keynote lecture titled ‘The Values Taught by the Kargil War and Martyr Jintu Gogoi,’ Anjali Bailung Gohain, President of the Hajo Khurung Lekhika Samiti, addressed the gathering. Dr Deepa Baruah, a librarian, delivered a speech on ‘Current Youth Indiscipline and the Responsibilities of Women in Society.’

The event, organized by Labonya Gogoi, Secretary of Jachinfa Lekhika Samaroh Samiti, began with a welcome address by Chitralekha Rajkhowa. Principal Mrinal Baruah, former minister and BJP leader Bismita Gogoi, and AAPKUR central executive member Nabin Gohain were present as distinguished guests. Notably, although the day marks a national victory won at the cost of soldiers’ lives and is supposed to be officially commemorated, no government official was seen present at this privately-organized Vijay Diwas event.
