Kokrajhar observes International Day Against Drug Abuse with Community-Wide Participation

KOKRAJHAR: A district-level observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was held on Thursday at auditorium hall of Kokrajhar Govt College in Kokrajhar under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, organized by the District Social Welfare Office, Kokrajhar, under the department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Assam, in collaboration with Assam Police, Kokrajhar.

Addressing the gathering, Gautam Das, EM, Women and Child Development, BTC, delivered an inspiring speech urging everyone to come together in the mission to make Kokrajhar a drug-free district, stressing the importance of community awareness and consistent action. As part of the celebration, prizes were distributed to the winners of a poster-making competition based on the theme ‘My Dream of a Drug-Free India.’

The programme featured further impactful keynote speeches, along with a thought-provoking street play by AWWs, a colourful Bagrumba dance by the Lwrgi Theatre Group, and a soulful solo performance by a nationally-acclaimed singer. One of the most moving moments was the powerful testimony of Ajay Basumatary, who shared his personal story of overcoming addiction and building a meaningful, healthy life. His words left a lasting impact on the audience and highlighted the possibility of change and hope.

Several dignitaries including Lawrence Islary, MLA, 30 East Kokrajhar LAC, Pami Brahma, Secretary, WCD, Kabita Deka, ADC, WCD, and Devajit Mahanta, DSP, Kokrajhar Police, were present at the occasion.

 Representatives from a wide range of departments and organizations including Government College Kokrajhar, Transport, Education, Health, ASRLM, Kokrajhar Medical College Hospital, Cancer Hospital Kokrajhar, Kokrajhar PS, DCPO, UNICEF, CDPOs, DLSA, WCD Consultant, Salvation Foundation, Sankalp HUB Team, District Poshan Team, Bodoland Community Counselling Centre, One Stop Centre, ICDS Supervisors, AWWs, and large numbers of youths and students were also in attendance.
