Haflong: The protracted delay in completing the Mahur bridge over the Diyung River has inflicted immense hardship on the local population. Despite persistent appeals and years of waiting, the project’s uncertainty persists. The bridge is vital for the community, with over 70 percent of residents relying on it for essential services like marketing, healthcare, and education. Its completion is crucial for the well-being and development of Mahur.
Last year, residents urged authorities to prioritize the bridge’s construction before the monsoon season. However, their pleas were ignored, resulting in the destruction of the ongoing construction. This has led to renewed demands for immediate action to complete the bridge.
Prominent citizens expressed frustration, citing multiple unsuccessful approaches to the PWD department. They alleged a lack of sincerity among officials and hinted at possible collusion between officials and contractors, which has victimized the people of Mahur.
The Mahur community is united in demanding transparency and accountability. They hope their voices will be heard, and the bridge will be completed without further delay.
