MANGALDAI: On a joyous Sunday evening, the jam-packed Mangaldai Sanatan Dharma Sabha auditorium in presence of the senior citizens, women activists, media persons, and family members was abuzz with love and gratitude to celebrate the 87th birthday of veteran footballer and octogenarian social activist Baneshwar Das in an exceptional way. The air was filled with warmth and respect as Mrinalini Devi, a renowned literary figure of the state, shared precious words, “Parents are like Gods to their children, deserving love, respect, and care while they’re alive.” She also emphasized the beauty of nurturing family bonds, making parents proud, and cherishing them in their golden years.
The highlight of the evening was a ceremonial release of a 200-page book, ‘Baneswar Das Abhinandan Grantha’ on the life and works of Baneswar Das jointly published by Mangaldai Media Circle and Mangaldai Town Club showcasing his remarkable journey and achievements. This thoughtful gesture left him beaming with joy and pride. The book edited by Naba Kumar Das and Jyoti Prasad Deka was ceremonially released by former Vice President of Asom Sahitya Sabha Mrinalini Devi.
“It was a truly unforgettable celebration of life, love, and legacy,” added Mrinalini Devi while appreciating the organizers for celebrating the birthday of this veteran player in a praiseworthy manner.
The event was a testament to the power of community and love, attended by over 50 organizations and more than 200 individuals who came together to honour Baneshwar Das on his birthday. Eminent litterateur Dr Amarendra Narayan Dev, literary figure Phulendra Nath Saharia and Dr Joy Kanta Saharia taking part in the book release function amidst the atmosphere filled with sweet gestures, warm wishes, and heartfelt felicitations recalled the expertise of Baneswar Das in the football matches even in the prestigious Bordoloi Trophy.
Earlier Mangaldai legislator Basanta Das, the eldest son of Baneswar Das accorded a rousing welcome to all the guests and the august audience in his welcome speech in the function anchored by media person Bhargab Kumar Das while Dhritismita Das - a granddaughter of Baneswar Das enthralled the function with her melodious performance of a song.
