MANGALDAI: In a world where holidays often tempt people to lounge or fritter away time, Teacher Hitesh Hazarika stands out as a beacon of purpose. A Teacher of English at Outola Higher Secondary School and a resident of village Kabikara under Mangaldai police station, Hazarika transforms the idea of a break into an opportunity for meaningful work. His life is a testament to balancing professional dedication, social responsibility, and a deep-rooted connection to the land.

During the school term, Hazarika is a passionate educator, guiding his students not only in mastering the English language but also in cultivating a love for learning. When the school gates close for the summer vacation, Hazarika doesn’t retreat to idleness. Instead, he embraces the rhythm of rural life, trading his chalk for a plough.

On Sunday, as schools remained shut, Hazarika was spotted in his element, ploughing his one-bigha field with a pair of oxen, preparing the soil for paddy cultivation, and sowing. Far from the distractions of modern life, he worked with a quiet joy, humming tunes to himself as he turned the earth. This image of a teacher toiling in the fields is more than picturesque; it’s a powerful lesson in discipline and purpose. His efforts don’t go unnoticed. Villagers, young and old, draw inspiration from his work ethic, with students learning the value of diligence and locals spurred to match his vigour in their own endeavours.

Beyond farming, Hazarika, also a part time journalist, weaves his commitment to social good into his holiday routine. He engages in village development projects, addressing community needs with the same zeal he brings to his classroom and fields. This multifaceted life—teacher, journalist, farmer, and community advocate—makes Hazarika a role model for the youth of Kabikara and beyond.

In an age of fleeting distractions, he shows that time, when used wisely, can cultivate not just crops but character, community, and a legacy of hard work.
