MANGALDAI: The resignation submitted by Pinku Moni Das, the General Secretary of Darrang District Congress committee, after the newly-appointed President of Darrang District Congress committee, Riju Moni Talukdar, took charge on July 10, created sensation among the party workers. The newly-appointed President, Rijumoni Talukdar, after offering prayers at the Narikali temple in Sipajhar, was escorted by a large number of party workers to Rajiv Bhawan in Mangaldai and took the charge. While acknowledging the rousing welcome and felicitation, she stated that although the party leadership had entrusted her with the significant responsibility of the district President, she was not the sole authority. She emphasized the need to move forward together with both veteran and new party workers. Referring to the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly Election, she mentioned that there would be a fight, and that under Gaurav Gogoi's leadership, Congress would form the government in the state this time. Expressing public dissatisfaction with the performance of the BJP government, she remarked, "The people are looking for an alternative."

Notably, following Rijumoni Talukdar's appointment as President, youth leader Pinku Moni Das resigned from the posts of General Secretary of the Congress Darrang district committee and President of the Scheduled Caste Cell. The youth leader stated that the resignation was entirely due to personal reasons.
