DIBRUGARH: A week-long summer camp organized by the NGO ‘Nokhyotro-A Journey of Light’ concluded on Wednesday with an impressive cultural exhibition, drawing wide appreciation from the local community and invited dignitaries. The event, held at the Jyoti-Bishnu-Bhupendra Cultural Stage in Barpathar, witnessed participation from over fifty students and fourteen expert trainers from across Assam.

Nokhyotro, a volunteer-driven non-profit organization based in Kumarinichiga, Dibrugarh, was founded on December 23, 2024, by a group of committed young individuals, Abhijit Chakraborty, Bikash Chakraborty, Manab Chakraborty, Jyotiprakash Chakraborty (Late), and Abhijit Chakravarty.

The organization, which functions without government grants, aims to provide free educational support and life-skill training to underprivileged children and students from economically weaker sections.

Since its inception, Nokhyotro has focused on conducting regular Sunday classes, along with training in music, painting, handicrafts, and other creative arts. It also frequently organizes street plays and public awareness programmes across rural Dibrugarh. The 7-day summer camp, held from July 1 to 7, featured intensive training sessions in music, dance, drama, fine arts, and crafts. The trainers, many of them renowned artists and educators, worked closely with the children to hone their talents. The closing day exhibition on July 8 showcased the student’s achievements through performances and displays, leaving the audience deeply impressed.

Among the dignitaries present were educationist Devakrishna Baruah, cultural figure Jatin Konwar, and noted Assamese dramatist Ashim Kumar Sarmah, who lauded the efforts of the organizers and encouraged the students to continue nurturing their talents.

The event was conducted under the overall coordination of Nokhyotro’s General Secretary Abhijit Chakraborty, and supported by local volunteers.

Despite its limited resources, ‘Nokhyotro-A Journey of Light’ continues to carry out meaningful social interventions across the district. Its growing impact reflects the power of youth-led community efforts in promoting inclusive education and cultural development. The organization expressed hope to expand its activities in the coming months and reach more underserved areas of Assam.
