‘Railway connectivity and four laning of NH 15 achieved significant progress’: Dilip Saikia

MANGALDAI: “The longfelt need for Railway connectivity to Darrang and the four lanning of NH 15 from its zero point at Baihata Chariali to Mission Chariali in Tezpur has achieved significant progress,” said highly confident Darrang-Udalguri Parliamentarian Dilip Saikia on Saturday while elaborating on the two major surface communication projects involving the people of Darrang and its adjoining areas. He was addressing a jam packed audience in Science Gallery Auditorium at Mangaldai College in connection with the launching of the construction a new academic building and an advanced compute laboratory worth a total of Rs 5 crore under PM - USHA scheme.

In his speech Parliamentarian Saikia said that the Union Railway Ministry has recently given approval for the Final Location Survey ( FLS) of the proposed railway project and its final report will be published by the end of this month. “Union Railway Minister Ashwini Baisnav during my recent visit further informed me that a total of 128.76 km long railway connectivity project involving a cost not less than Rs 5000 crores will get necessary sanction ahead of the State assembly polls in 2026. On the other hand the approval for alignment of the proposed four laning of the NH 15 project connecting Baihata Chariali and Mission Chariali via Darrang district has been made. In a meeting of the NH alignment committee on March 13 last, the alignment of the road stretch of 117 kilometers involving a cost of nearly Rs 4000 crores were sanctioned. However it may need a green signal from the Defence Ministry for the Headquarters of Gajaraj Corps at Mission Chariali,” added Parliamentarian Saikia. He is hopeful that the project could be started within a year or two adding that he has been trying hard for the two projects for the last six years or so. In his speech Saikia also observed the necessity of transforming Mangaldai College into a university in near future considering its rich legacy of nearly 75 years and for this he asked for concerted efforts from all sections of the society. The event was also attended by Mangaldai Legislator Basanta Das, former legislator Gurujyoti Das, Principal of the College Dr Kamala Kanta Borah.
