Roy Foundation and BISS Assam Celebrate Lachit Divas 2024 at Assam Bhawan, Kolkata

DHUBRI: Roy Foundation in collaboration with Bharatiya Itihas Sankalan Samiti(BISS), Assam organized Lachit Divas 2024 at Assam Bhawan, Kolkata. The event commemorated the valiant Ahom General Lachit Borphukan, whose courage and leadership during the 1671 Battle of Saraighat have earned a place of pride in India’s history. 

The event witnessed participation from over 100 Assamese residing in Kolkata, along with many non-Assamese enthusiasts who share a deep admiration for Assam’s history and culture. 

The welcome address was delivered by assistant organising secretary of BISS and managing trustee of Roy Foundation, Giren Chandra Roy who extended a warm welcome to all guests and explained the purpose of the event.

He emphasized on the relevance of Lachit Borphukan’s ideals and the importance of reconnecting younger generations with the rich heritage of Assam. Senior Scientist at the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata, Dr. Jishnu Basu graced the occasion as the chief guest.

In his address, he reflected on Lachit Borphukan’s exemplary valour and its significance in inspiring modern society. 

The guests of honour included renowned writer and Visiting Professor at Calcutta University, Dr. Navamalati Neog Chakraborty and an eminent writer and numismatic expert, Shankar Kr. Basu.

Attendees expressed their appreciation for the captivating cultural performances and the excellent organization of the event, which paid a fitting tribute to the timeless legacy of Lachit Borphukan.
