NALBARI: While most residents of Nalbari town remain asleep deep into the night, a dedicated group of workers silently steps onto the streets with brooms, carts, and cleaning equipment to ensure that the town wakes up to a clean and hygienic environment every morning. These are the sanitation workers of the Nalbari Municipal Board — often unnoticed, yet indispensable to the daily life of the town.

From cleaning roads, marketplaces, drains, and public spaces to clearing accumulated waste from various corners of the town, the sanitation workers continue their duties tirelessly throughout the night. Sacrificing their own comfort and rest, they carry out one of the most essential public services that directly impacts public health, cleanliness, and the overall beauty of the town.

Residents and members of the conscious section of society have acknowledged that the cleanliness and livability of Nalbari largely depend on the relentless efforts of these workers.

However, despite their crucial contribution, sanitation workers often face neglect, disrespect, and insensitive behaviour from a section of society. Citizens expressed concern that many people fail to recognise the dignity and importance of their work, even though they play a vital role in maintaining civic hygiene and preventing the spread of diseases.

Social observers stated that no society can progress without respecting those who work for public welfare at the grassroots level. They emphasised that sanitation workers should never be looked down upon, as they are among the true pillars of an organised and healthy society.

Many residents urged citizens to show greater empathy, cooperation, and respect towards the workers who dedicate themselves daily for the benefit of the town.

Meanwhile, conscious citizens also appreciated the recent initiatives undertaken by Nalbari Municipal Board Chairperson Jayashree Talukdar and other municipal officials to improve cleanliness and sanitation management in the town. According to residents, if these initiatives continue regularly and systematically, many long-standing civic problems in the small town can gradually be resolved.

The people of Nalbari have further demanded that the health, safety, and social dignity of sanitation workers be ensured through proper protective equipment, healthcare support, and respectful working conditions. Citizens also expressed heartfelt gratitude to every sanitation worker of the Nalbari Municipal Board for their tireless service and commitment towards keeping the town clean and habitable.
