SIVASAGAR: A tuberculosis awareness meeting was organized on Wednesday in Sivasagar under the initiative of the District Tuberculosis Control Department. The meet held with the cooperation of the District Health Department. The meeting was presided over by Barnali Khatiwara, Assistant Commissioner of Sivasagar. He was attended by Joint Director of Health Services Dr Makhan Kalita, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Dijen Koch, WHO representative Dr Subrata Das, Razzak Hussain from the Assam State TB Office, and Dr Tridib Mahanta, Academic Registrar of Sibsagar University.
During the meeting, five tuberculosis patients from different parts of the district were provided six months’ worth of food supplies by Prashanta Baruah, owner of Sivasagar Alpine Resort, who personally took the initiative as a Nikshay Mitra, supporter of TB patients.
District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Dijen Koch also informed attendees that ONGC and BCPL have previously contributed similar food packages to several TB patients in the district. Additionally, the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a TB-free India within 100 days.
