DOOMDOOMA: Motiram Koiri, a distinguished writer from tea-tribes community, a former employee of Digulturrung TE passed away on Monday night due to old age ailment. He was 89 and is survived by his wife and five sons including Rajen Koiri, president, Tinsukia Zila Parishad.
After his superannuation from tea garden, he lived permanently at Wood Road of the town and was closely associated with a number of socio-cultural organisations including Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX). His death has cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by many organisations including Doomdooma Municipal Board, Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha (TZXX), Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha (DSXX), Tinsukia District Journalists Association, Doomdooma Press Club, Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samity, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), ATTSA. AASAA. On hearing his death news, local MLA Rupesh Gowala paid a visit to his house to pay his last respect. On the other hand, Prahlad Chandra Tasha, former President-in-charge, Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX), conveyed his condolence through TZXX president over phone. His last rites were performed at Doomdooma Smashan Ghat on Tuesday.
