Summer workshop on Khol and Borgeet concludes at Sri Sri Rowta Satra

A ten-day-long summer workshop on Khol (traditional drum) and Borgeet (devotional songs of Assam) concluded successfully on the evening of July 30 at the premises of Sri Sri Rowta Satra in Udalguri.

ORANG: A ten-day-long summer workshop on Khol (traditional drum) and Borgeet (devotional songs of Assam) concluded successfully on the evening of July 30 at the premises of Sri Sri Rowta Satra in Udalguri district. The cultural training camp, which began on July 21, was organized under the initiative of the Satra’s managing committee.

The concluding ceremony was held under the chairmanship of Jon Kumar Das, President of Sri Sri Rowta Satra. Renowned Sattriya artiste from Barpeta, Mrigendra Nath Talukdar, inaugurated the event with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.

Over fifty enthusiastic students participated in the workshop. Eminent artistes Ajay Bayan, Ankur Das, and Mrigendra Nath Talukdar from Barpeta served as the trainers and mentors. In his speech, trainer Ajay Bayan appreciated the dedication of the trainees, stating that despite the short duration, participants showed remarkable focus and quickly grasped the nuances of Borgeet and Khol playing. He also urged the satra’s management to continue this cultural tradition through regular training initiatives. Khanin Chandra Bayan, Cultural Secretary of the Satra Management Committee, extended heartfelt thanks to all the trainees. He specially acknowledged the support of parents and guardians, expressing gratitude for their proactive involvement in ensuring the workshop’s success. All participants were awarded certificates of completion during the ceremony. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the live performances of Khol playing and Borgeet by the trainees, which earned widespread appreciation.

Kulen Das, Acting Secretary of the satra, expressed gratitude to all contributors and supporters by offering the traditional shalagor sharai (token of appreciation). The ceremony concluded with a devotional Guru Seva ritual, bringing a spiritually fulfilling end to the workshop.
