TEZPUR: In view of the forthcoming Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct in Sonitpur district, the District Magistrate, Sonitpur, Ananda Kumar Das, ACS, has issued a prohibitory order under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, prohibiting all kinds of roadside digging, excavation, and trenching works within the district.  Under the order, all government departments, contractors, agencies, and private entities have been directed to immediately stop ongoing roadside digging works, and no fresh permissions will be granted during this period. Departments concerned have also been instructed to ensure that already excavated sites are properly restored, levelled, barricaded, and made safe for vehicular and pedestrian movement, while roads identified for election duty must remain fully motorable and free from obstructions.
