MANGALDAI: Darrang police on Thursday seized a reasonable quantity of suspected brown sugar from a house here at Ward No 2. According to the Officer-in-Charge of Mangaldai police station, Inspector Chandan Jyoti Bora, acting on a reliable input, the police laid a trap early in the morning where policemen in plain clothes, in the guise of buyers, met the illegal drug peddlers. This was followed by the search operation where suspected brown sugar weighing nearly 40 gm, filled in 27 plastic containers, was seized from the house. The police further said that the resident of the house Asiya Begum (45 years) had been carrying out the drug peddling for quite a long time. The police also seized eight mobile phones, one tablet computer, and a cash amount of Rs 62,000. Police booked Asiya Begum along with her associate Anowar Hussain (25 years) as per the provisions of NDPS Act.
