HAFLONG: A tragic landslide struck Hangrum village in the Dima Hasao district of Assam on Tuesday morning, claiming two lives and leaving several others injured. The incident occurred around 10:30 am along the Mahur-Tamenglong National Highway, under the jurisdiction of Mahur police station. According to reports, a massive heap of earth suddenly collapsed onto the roadside, severely damaging five nearby shops. The landslide resulted in the death of two individuals, who were later identified as Huajengambe Riame, aged 65 of Hangrum Village, and Feron Tiga, aged 38 of Lakhimpur. Two people were reported to be seriously injured: Intingle Nriame, a 40-year-old woman, and Paurangteutuing Nriame, a 60-year-old man, both from Hangrum village. Three others suffered minor injuries, including a pregnant woman, Ntingbuile Nriame, aged 30; a two-year-old child, Rachiamyile Nriame; and Ichihungle Nriame, a 25-year-old woman—all residents of Hangrum. All the injured were immediately rushed to Haflong Civil Hospital for medical treatment. Rescue operations were launched promptly, but authorities reported challenges in coordination due to the remoteness of the area and poor network connectivity.
