NAGAON: A tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when a wild elephant attacked and killed a 26-year-old girl, identified as Sangeeta Sero, at her residence in the Kaliabor tea estate under Nagaon district.

According to sources, following the tragic incident, the District Commissioner, Devasish Sharma, visited the victim’s residence to assess the situation and met with the family members and local residents.

The incident has sparked tension in the area, and the authorities are working to address the issue of human-elephant conflict. The state government, district administration, and forest department have been taking measures to mitigate the conflict, but the increasing encroachment of human settlements into forest areas has led to a rise in such incidents.

During his visit, the District Commissioner was accompanied by the Divisional Forest Officer, Nagaon, Suhas Kadam, and other officials. The administration is working to provide support to the affected family.
