JAMUGURIHAT: Arnab Barua (42), a youth from Baruachuk village of Sootea was on his way to the market in his four-wheeler bearing registration number AS 12 S 6224 on Saturday evening to buy meat. That journey became his last. He didn't return home. His body was found inside the vehicle this morning. The vehicle was parked on the side of NH-15 near a depot located at Khanaguri village in Sootea and Arnab's body was inside. The body was taken to the police station and sent for post-mortem. The family suspected that the death was not normal but a planned murder.
According to reports, he was found in the driver's left seat when the body was recovered on Sunday. Police recovered some items such as white powder from the vehicle. The mystery will be known only after forensic examination, police sources said. The vehicle was brought to the police station by crane on Sunday after fingerprints were obtained on the steering. The deceased was a drug addict and had spent some time in a rehabilitation camp earlier. But he was very modest in his manners, neighbours said.
Some witnesses noticed the vehicle parked in the area since 9.30 pm but they did not look inside the vehicle. Arnab's mother called him a couple of times since evening but no one answered the phone. The phone was switched off after 9.30 pm.
Police said the investigation could only proceed after the post-mortem. The people of the area have been claiming that there is a huge drug base in Sootea, Itakhola and other places. Occasionally, a few small peddlers are caught but the main drug dealers are yet to be traced. Many young people have fallen into the trap of drug dealers.
