IMPHAL: Manipur Police have managed to seize a total of 10.5 kilograms of high-grade heroin powder worth around Rs 10.5 crore in the local clandestine drug market. The huge quantity was the outcome of several raids carried out across the state in the last 48 hours.
During the operations, police arrested three suspected drug traffickers in Imphal East and Imphal West districts. Moreover, officials seized a car with 880 soap packets being utilized to smuggle drugs, as per reports published on Thursday.
The police, in their morning official bulletin, reported that on March 25, 2025, they arrested three persons with 5.5 kg of suspected heroin powder.
Later, the Imphal East district police found an abandoned Bolero car in the same district. During a search, officers found 419 soap cases filled with about 5 kg of heroin powder hidden inside the car.
Additional raids resulted in another effective interception on National Highway 02, linking Imphal with the Mao region near the Manipur-Nagaland border.
Three drug runners carrying illicit narcotics were apprehended in the Imphal West district. At this specific raid, officials seized 461 soap cases of approximately 5.5 kg of heroin powder from the suspects.
Together, the raids yielded 880 soap cases containing about 10.5 kg of heroin. The authorities are of the view that the drugs were being shipped from Myanmar and smuggled out of the state through National Highway 102, which links Imphal to Dimapur in Nagaland. The highway has been a route well-known to illegal drug trafficking networks in the area.
After the arrest, Manipur Police filed cases against the suspected smugglers in relevant sections of law and presented them before the relevant court. Nonetheless, so far, authorities have not named the arrested smugglers.
