GUWAHATI: In a significant move, to promote skill development and entrepreneurship in the Northeast, the Secretary of Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER) held a meeting with the CEO of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and senior officials to discuss important plans.
The meeting discussed ways to improve skills, job opportunities, and training in the region. NSDC shared a plan to help young people gain practical skills and start their own businesses.
Officials discussed ways to improve skill training, create more job opportunities, and grow the economy in the Northeast. This effort supports the government's plan to strengthen the workforce and ensure development for everyone.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati BioNEST and BRICS Youth Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (Government of India) and the Global Counter-Terrorism Council, had been set to host a pre-consultation event on entrepreneurship on February 7, 2025.
Kausar Jamil Hilaly, IAS, Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Welfare, Government of Assam, had graced the event as the chief guest. Other dignitaries had also graced the occasion.
The event, ‘Empowering Northeast India—Youth Innovations for Sustainable Growth and National Connectivity,’ had been an open platform for young entrepreneurs, innovators, and students in the region to gain valuable insights from industry leaders, successful entrepreneurs, and innovation experts in Northeast India. Emphasizing the critical role of entrepreneurship in emerging economies, Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, had said, “Entrepreneurs and startups have the potential to contribute nearly 30% to the GDP of emerging economies. In BRICS nations, entrepreneurship drives job creation, innovation, and economic growth.”
