SHILLONG: The countdown to the 6th Meghalaya Games continues with the arrival of the ceremonial torch in Shillong on January 18. After its journey from Tura, the torch will be showcased at the MUDA Two-Wheeler Parking Lot for an hour, offering a unique opportunity for the public, athletes, and enthusiasts to witness and capture the moment.
Starting at 3:00 pm, the torch relay will commence its journey through the city, beginning at the Police Bazaar and culminating at Madanryting. Scheduled from January 20 to 25, the 6th Meghalaya Games will feature 29 sports disciplines. Two major events—swimming and golf—will take place in Shillong.
The remaining sports, including archery, arm wrestling, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cycling, football, gymnastics, judo, karate-do, kho-kho, muay Thai, shooting, softball, sports climbing, table tennis, taekwondo, lawn tennis, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, traditional sports, roll ball, Yogasana, and lawn bowling, will be spread across various locations in Jowai Town, Wahiajer, and Khliehtryshi in the West Jaintia Hills District.
The official curtain-raiser for the 6th Meghalaya Games was held on January 13, 2025, at the District Library Auditorium in Mynthong, Jowai. The event was attended by the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Shakliar Warjri, and the guest of honor, local MLA and Chairman of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Wailadmiki Shylla.
