SHILLONG: Dominic Megam Sangma, the visionary filmmaker from Meghalaya’s Garo Hills, has once again catapulted the region into the national spotlight by clinching his second National Film Award for his soul-stirring cinematic masterpiece Rimdogittanga (Rapture), which was adjudged Best Garo Film at the 71st National Film Awards by the Government of India.
Rapture has been hailed for its poignant, poetic storytelling that delves deep into the human condition, portraying the spiritual unease of a Christian village gripped by apocalyptic fear. With its haunting narrative steeped in emotion, layered with themes of life, death, and belief, and framed against the raw, untamed beauty of Meghalaya’s landscape, the film stands as a cinematic triumph that redefines regional storytelling.
Celebrating the achievement, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed, “Congratulations to Dominic Megam Sangma on winning Best Feature Film in Garo for ‘Rimdogittanga (Rapture)’ at the 71st National Film Awards! Dominic has consistently captivated us with his powerful storytelling, rooted deeply in the richness of our tribal heritage and way of life. This latest recognition is a testament to his unique voice and vision. A heartfelt congratulations to him and his entire team on this well-earned and well-deserved success!”
