KOHIMA: 19,300 families in the hilly regions of Nagaland have been given new homes through the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) plan, which is a major accomplishment for rural housing in the state. This is a component of a bigger project that aims to enhance living conditions in rural areas by approving the construction of 48,826 houses.
The PMAY-G program aims to give rural families access to long-term, secure housing. In order to survive the harsh environment and topography of Nagaland, dwellings are constructed with elevated frameworks and stone columns, providing protection from termites and moisture. Beyond simply offering a place to live, these homes give families a sense of safety, self-worth, and empowerment.
In addition to lowering construction costs, using locally available materials like bamboo and lightweight concrete has encouraged local populations to become more self-sufficient and skilled. The homes combine modern building methods for increased durability and functionality with traditional Nagaland architecture, such as bamboo matting and CGI sheet roofing.
Rural Nagaland is benefiting economically and socially from this project, which allows families to concentrate on enhancing their livelihoods, education, and health. The PMAY-G scheme's success highlights how it promotes inclusive development by fusing traditional customs with contemporary infrastructure for the good of rural communities.
