AGARTALA: In a heartbreaking incident in the Madhav Tilla area of Kanchanmala No. 1 ward, located in the Golaghati assembly constituency of Tripura's Sepahijala district, a 40-year-old man named Tapas Chowdhury took his own life by hanging late Monday night. His body was discovered by his father, Gouranga Chowdhury, who was the first to arrive at the scene. “I saw him hanging and couldn’t believe my eyes. I screamed for help,” he recounted, visibly shaken.

Neighbors rushed to the house upon hearing Gouranga's wails, only to be greeted with the tragic scene. Tapas's wife and little child were heartbroken, unable to handle the sudden loss.

Family sources revealed that Tapas had a history of alcohol consumption but had refrained from drinking for the past 10 to 12 days. A relative noted, “He was behaving normally the entire day, but he barely spoke to anyone. We never thought he would take such a drastic step.”

Authorities from the Amtali police station responded to the incident, recovering Tapas’s body and sending it for a post-mortem examination at Tripura Medical College & Dr. BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital in Agartala. A police officer has assured that a case of unnatural death has been lodged and is under investigation. The body will be handed over to the family once the autopsy is done.

The reasons for Tapas Chowdhury's ill-fated decision are yet to be ascertained, leaving behind his elderly parents, wife, daughter, and brother to come to terms with the irreversible loss.
