Mahendra Hazarika, an eminent folk artiste and a resident of Majgaon Borachuk here breathed his last on Friday night at his residence due to prolonged illness. He was 79. A retired employee of Jamuguri Adarsha High School was closely associated with many socio-cultural organizations of the greater Naduar area. He had a fame and reputation as a vocal artist. He has performed in many stage shows. His melodious tunes attracted people. Representatives of various socio-cultural organizations of the greater Jamugurihat area including Sudarshan Sanskrit Gosthi, Bapuji Bhawan Natya Samaj, No 2 Majgaon VDC, Sonitpur district committee of Ek Sharan Bhagawati Samaj, Pradip Library, Paschim Jamuguri Kala Parishad, Jamuguri Adarsha High School, Abhijatri Kala Kendra, Natun Sahitya Parishad, Jamuguri Town Committee besides others paid homage in the mortal remains this morning at his residence. He leaves behind his wife, a son, and two daughters along with a host of relatives. His demise has cast a pall of gloom in the entire area.
