GUWAHATI: At just 20 years of age, Ayushman Malakar carries responsibilities that many cricketers only encounter much later in their careers. Leading the Tezpur Titans in the inaugural Assam Premier League, the young all-rounder has embraced the challenge of captaincy while continuing to establish himself as one of the competition’s promising performers.
For Ayushman, the tournament represents much more than wins and losses. He believes the league has already proven its value by giving Assam’s cricketers an opportunity to showcase their talent on a larger stage. “Every match has been a nail-biter. The competition has been excellent from the very first day, and this is a fantastic platform for players to show what they are capable of. Performances here can open doors to the next level,” he says.
While the Titans have endured a challenging campaign, with three losses in as many games, Ayushman refuses to dwell on setbacks. Instead, the youngster has adopted a long-term mindset that reflects maturity beyond his years. Rather than looking at results alone, he believes sustained improvement comes from trusting the process and staying committed to the team’s plans.
“Our team has lost a few games because of small moments that haven’t gone our way, but we’ll come back stronger. I don’t believe in results. I just trust the process. I am doing my best for my team. If things go according to the plan, the performances will follow,” he says.
“The wicket has been very good. It’s an international venue, so there is no reason to question the pitch. Our batters simply need to back themselves and play with greater confidence because the ability is certainly there,” adds the youngster.
