GUWAHATI: Guwahati defeated Chirang by 8 wickets in their third league game of the Nuruddin Ahmed Trophy Senior Inter-District Cricket Tournament at Goalpara on Saturday. The second day of the match witnessed a dramatic collapse of Chirang’s second innings, as they lost 8 wickets while adding just 16 runs.
In reply to Chirang’s first innings total of 96, Guwahati had declared their innings at 174 for 8 on Friday. At stumps on Day 1, Chirang were 91 for 2 in their second innings, with Md Taijuddin and Fajlur Rahman having stitched together a solid 89-run third-wicket partnership.
However, the pair couldn’t build on that momentum this morning. Taijuddin (50) was dismissed by Rohit Singh after just three runs were added to the overnight total. What followed was a complete collapse, as Chirang’s innings folded like a pack of cards. They were bowled out for just 110, adding a mere 19 runs on the second day. Rohit Singh and Priyangshu Khole were the chief destroyers, picking up four wickets apiece.
Needing only 33 runs to win, Guwahati chased down the target with ease, losing just two wickets. With this win, Guwahati collected six points from the match.
