Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2025 kicks off with grand inauguration

The 8th edition of the Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2025 began with a grand opening ceremony at the RG Baruah Sports Complex on Tuesday.

GUWAHATI: The 8th edition of the Guwahati Open Junior Tennis Championship 2025 began with a grand opening ceremony at the RG Baruah Sports Complex on Tuesday. Organized by the Guwahati Tennis Association (GTA), the championship has drawn an impressive 220 participants from across the region.

Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, a former national tennis player and Chairperson of Pride-East Entertainment Private Limited, inaugurated the event as the Chief Guest. She was joined by two Guests of Honour—former national champion Susan Das Choudhari and Justice (Retd.) Prahladrai Gulabchand Agarwal.  The championship features competitions across various categories, including Boys' and Girls' Singles (Under-12, Under-14, and Under-18), Combined Singles for Boys and Girls (Under-10), and Boys' and Girls' Doubles (Under-18). A total scholarship fund of Rs 2.20 lakh has been allocated, with prizes being distributed from the quarterfinal stage onward in all categories.

A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of a new Ball Machine, donated by the Neelachal Tennis Foundation to the GTA Tennis Academy. This state-of-the-art equipment is expected to enhance training for budding players. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma and Susan Das Choudhari jointly inaugurated the machine and praised the GTA’s vision for advancing tennis infrastructure in the region. The ceremony was also attended by Kalyan Kumar Das, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Bhaskar Sarma, Organizing Secretary, and GTA advisors Pronoy Bordoloi and Anirban Das.
