GUWAHATI: The 9th North East Veteran Badminton Tournament, organized by the Assam Seniors Badminton Club, concluded on Monday at the DTRP Indoor Stadium in Guwahati. The event saw participation from veteran players across various states of the NorthEast.
In the men’s 50+ doubles category, Assam’s Bijoy Barman and Padma Kumar Das emerged victorious, defeating Gyan Ranjan Bora and Aschit Chetia with scores of 21-15, 21-17. In the men’s 60+ doubles, Assam duo Dhruba Sarma and Paran Hazarika clinched the title by overcoming their opponents from Mizoram. Winners in other doubles categories hailed from Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram. All title winners received a cash prize of Rs 30,000 each, while runners-up were awarded Rs 20,000 each. Both losing semi-finalists didn’t go empty-handed either, taking home Rs 10,000 each.
This year, the Assam Seniors Badminton Club also hosted a Plastic Shuttles Prize Money Badminton Tournament alongside the main event, adding further excitement to the championship.
