Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) today welcomed the investment proposals from within the country and outside at the recently-concluded Advantage Summit 2.0. However, the student organisation expected that local employment would be ensured.

AASU president Utpal Sarma and general secretary Samiran Phukon, in a joint statement, said it is an encouraging development that many investors have committed to investing in the state. If the commitments turn into reality, Assam’s economy will get a tremendous boost.

Talking to the media, Utpal Sarma said, “We have welcomed the investment plans but remain committed to the condition that local employment must be ensured.”

The students’ body stated that industrial development is welcome but agricultural land should remain protected.
