Guwahati: The new academic session of 2025-26 in Assam started on April 1, 2025, and new classes have begun in schools as per the academic calendar. However, the documents of 6 lakh students on Shiksha Setu are yet to be sorted out by the schools.
According to Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA), there are 6 lakh students in the dropbox of Shiksha Setu. SSA has now instructed all schools concerned to pull out students from the dropbox by May 7.
The Mission Director of SSA has now written to all Additional District Commissioners (Education), District Mission Coordinators of SSA, Inspectors of Schools and District Elementary Education Officers (DEEOs) to ensure that the process of pulling out students from the Shiksha Setu dropbox is completed by May 7, 2025.
The letter of SSA states that there are currently 6 lakhs of students in the dropbox of Shiksha Setu. Among these, 3 lakhs of students (excluding Class X and XII) are pending for seamless transfer to the next higher classes/schools.
The primary purpose of the dropbox is to facilitate the smooth transition of students from one class to the next while ensuring that each student's academic progress is tracked under a single student ID. However, it was observed by SSA that some schools have been adding students as new entries instead of pulling them from the dropbox. As a result, these students remain in the dropbox for extended periods, causing inefficiencies in maintaining an up-to-date database.
It is also stated that the intended purpose of pulling students from the dropbox is to track their academic journey effectively. If schools continue adding students as new entries instead of pulling from the dropbox, the effectiveness of the database will be compromised. Consequently, the number of students in the dropbox will increase each year, further hindering progress.
Therefore, the letter directed the officers concerned to instruct all schools onboarded in Shiksha Setu not to add any new students from Class II to XII without prior permission from the district and state offices.
A warning is given that if any new students are found in the dropbox, they will be deactivated.
