GUWAHATI: The Government of Assam has issued an executive order enhancing the Child Care Allowance provisions for differently-abled women employees in the state service. The order, issued by the Finance (Audit & Fund) Department, has modified the eligibility criteria outlined in the earlier Office Memorandum issued on April 19, 2017.
As per the updated order, differently-abled women employees will receive a childcare allowance of Rs 1,000 per month for each of their two minor children until the child attains 18 years of age. This is in addition to the existing disability allowance they receive.
Significantly, the order includes a special provision for cases where the children themselves are also differently abled. In such instances, the benefit of the Child Care Allowance will be extended throughout the entire service life of the woman employee, regardless of the child’s age.
The order also clarifies that eligibility for the allowance will require submission of valid disability certificates issued by a competent medical authority, as per existing government norms, both for the employee and the children, wherever applicable.
All other terms and conditions remain unchanged from the original memorandum issued on April 19, 2017. The revised directive aims to provide additional support and inclusivity to government employees facing greater caregiving responsibilities.
